INFORMATION SHARING AND ASSESSMENT – (was called IRT)

All Local Authorities are required to have information systems in place to identify children and young people in need of support as early as possible, ensure there are efficient and effective sharing of systems to appropriate services and then be able to assess the outcomes achieved by service delivery.

IMPLIED CONSENT (See also Informed Consent)

Where a person has been informed about the information to be shared, the purpose for sharing and that they have the right to object and their agreement to sharing has been signalled by their behaviour rather than orally or in writing.

INDEPENDENT REVIEWING OFFICER

Independent reviewing officers are registered social workers who are independent of the management of the looked after children’s cases that they review. From September 2004, independent reviewing officers chair all looked after children’s statutory review meetings.

INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLAN

This is an individual learning programme devised by a school for a child who has been identified as having special educational needs. It sets out key individual short-term targets for the pupil, the teaching strategies to be used, and any extra support that may be needed.

INFORMATION

In regard to information sharing this term refers to a collection of facts from which conclusions may be drawn for example statistical but also personal data.

INFORMATION SHARING PROTOCOL or AGREEMENT

A negotiated and signed document between partner organisations on what information will be shared, with whom, over what period and how and why it will be shared.

INFORMATION SECURITY POLICY

A statement of an organisation’s security arrangements in regard to their processing of personal, confidential and sensitive data.  The policy will also make reference to the physical and environmental issues, the need to maintain data confidentiality and integrity, the appropriate user permissions and access levels, audits and monitoring procedures, etc.

INFORMED CONSENT

The data subject has been provided with sufficient information to enable them to understand what they are consenting to. This includes the processing of their data and the roles of the organisations to which data may be passed.

INSET (In-Service Education of Teachers)

Any programme undertaken by teachers in schools to further their professional development. Funding for INSET is largely derived from grants provided by the Department for Education and Skills. 5 INSET days per annum are provided for teachers as part of their conditions for service.
